Retin-A
Alex in Virginia -
OK, I'm 13, and I openly admit: my face looked like it was fresh out of Frankenstine's Monster. so I went to a dermatologist, and she gave me a prescription for a cream called Retin-A.
It starts working in a couple days, and within about 1-3 weeks my skin was totally cleared up :)

Proactiv
Jazz in California -
If you have sensitive skin, stripping your face and applying ribbing alcohol will only make your acne condition worse.
I am one of those people with highly sensitive skin. and believe me, I've tried practically every "cure" for acne possible. Nothing can CURE acne, but somethings can prevent, eliminate and restore.
I highly suggest proactiv. Just the three basic steps AND the refining mask. I want to emphasize how useful the mask is. Made from china clay and sulfer, it soothes redness and clears dirt. However, I do not follow the recommended 10 minutes 2-3 times a week. instead I found wearing the mask all night, every other day (after the basic three steps) keeps my skin clear, softens it, removes blackheads AND diminishes pore size. it is most effective and you'll see results within days! It's also great for spot treatment.
(there is a similar product to proactice, but much less expensive. It's called AcneFree. I Highly suggest this if you don't plan on purchasing proavtiv)
If you find proactiv too expensive, I have a few other suggestions.
Hydrogen peroxide is very useful if your face continues to produce too much oil. Apply with a cotton ball to damp face 3-4 times a day and leave it there.
Another prevention, if you are currently using ANY kind of cleaner or moisturizer with oils or rubbing alcohol, consider stopping. Natural and oil-free moisturizers are the best. Make-up is another culprit for acne. Use organic products without oil.
If you work out, and sweat a lot, bring a wash cloth (or rinse your face with water) to avoid prolonged exposure to salty sweat. Dried sweat on your skin is one of the number one reasons for pimples.
Eating oily foods is not the best idea either. However eating habits do not affect all people it may be affecting you. Try to avoid food with fatty oils.
Fruits and Vegetables. Natures purest food! eat them regularly, and abundantly. They contain many vitamins necessary for healthiness.
Btw- for those of you who say continually washing your face with JUST water is the BEST remedy, you need to do more research. Continually washing your face strips already existing oils off of the skin. The body reacts naturally to this by producing MORE oil, creating more plugging of pores and resulting in MORE breakouts.
I haven't time to type out ALL my advice, but if you REALLy need something affective right away(and none of the above work for you)

Weird but true
Maisie Lynn in Yucaipa CA, USA -
I'm 13 years old and I have more acne then I like, so one day I was searching and I came across this mixture. All you do is mix plain vanilla yougurt with plain oatmeal and a around 5-7 drops of lemon juice, mix it all together and spread all over your face and let sit for 5 minutes, make sure you laying down because it does drip. once the 5 minutes are up wash it off with hot water. It doesn't cure acne right away but over time it does, not only that but an amazing skin softener as well!

Vitamin B Stress Complex.
Lara in Toronto, Ontario, Canada -
I already eat a very healthy diet, and am very active, but I was getting monthly PMS zits on my chin for a few years in my late 20's! An older woman in a health food store suggested this simple fix, which is beneficial all around. I have had them clear up for 5 months running now and am convinced that supplementation is needed in our world today! Hope it helps.

steam facial
Katie in Detroit, MI -
My face started breaking out about a year prior. It started out with those little red pimples, and eventually turned into a full blown facial nightmare! I acquired multiple pimples, the huge ones under the skin that you can't see at first, but eventually turn into those enormous and painful red mounds. I tried all sorts of over the counter regimends with no avail.
-One day I decided to mix whatever I could find from the pantry into a boiling pot of water and soak it up. I put a couple green tea bags, honey, orange rinds, rosemary seasoning, and sea salt. I turned the heat to low just to keep the steam from dying, put a towel over my head, and gave my face a steam bath for close to a 1/2 hour. I saw a massive improvement overnight! I repeated this every other day and my skin is finally pimple free! It also got rid of a ton of blackheads I've had for ages covering my nose!
-I had also applied a light layer of lotion with no minerals to my face after rinsing with fridgedly cold water.
-I do have very sensative skin and my face did start peeling off the dead top layer. I used a fresh washcloth when I showered to gently rub the skin away. Within a couple days the flakes were gone and my skin looked better than ever.
(I haven't tried adding or subtracting any ingredients since this worked great for me, but I'm sure if you mix your own concoction you may find an even better one to suit your facial needs.)

Egg Yolk Mask
Kelly in Las Vegas, NV -
Egg yolk is full of vitamins and I'm pretty sure when applied topically, they're absorbed by the body much faster. (Getting enough vitamin A in your diet and drinking enough water is also very important) For acne, I used to put egg yolk in a bowl, use a blush brush to apply it to all red spots, let it dry & then wash it off. You should see results within a week.

Betadine!
Rachel in Clovis, CA USA -
Im now on birth control, which helps my skin so much, but before I started taking it, Id tried everything...all those oral and topical medications..nothing was working. Im half black and half white, so I have some pretty darn difficult skin! One day..It just came to me to put betadine on my face. Mom put it on my wounds when I was little and I remembered how it made a sort of film when it dried. ...Every time I used something else to take out the oil and make my face rather matte at night before bed, I would wake up and Id be as oily as ever. With the betadine, it would dry, and create a film. When Id wake up, my face would not be oily whatsoever.
Just grab some betadine and apply it with a cotton ball or washcloth to the entire face. You might look a little funny when it dries cuz youll be kinda orange and your face will be a little stiff, but when you sleep..the orangeness will fade, but the film will still be there. and youll be able to move your face! Just rinse it off, or apply make up directly over it! The film betadine creates is awesome because It kills germs and bacteria, and it protects your face from anything getting in! I thought this was just so freakin neat that I wanted to share with yall. I hope this helps. Thanks much for reading!

No cure, prevention
KM in New Hampshire -
There is no "Cure" for acne. The only thing you can do is Prevent future outbreaks.
Acne is nothing but a clogged pore. The pores get clogged because dirt and oils from your face clog them. The best way to prevent clogs is to get rid of the Oil and Dirt.
WASH YOUR FACE EVERY DAY. Teenagers get oily skin, and they touch their faces a lot. NEVER touch your face with your hands. Wash regularly with a clean washcloth, and a mild soap. Severe scrubbing is not needed, just a wash up to clean the oil and dirt.
My brothers and sisters were Pizza faces, and mine was fairly minor acne. I washed every night before bed, and followed up with a rubbing alcohol wipe across the oiliest parts (nose, chin, forehead.)
I discovered later in life that there were tests done with several acne products to see which did the best job, and just plain face washing was the clear winner.
Inexpensive, and common sense. And it works. : )
